Netbook Reflection 2012

I have just completed my second year with my netbook this is my 2012 reflection. I am a year 7 with my second year with my netbook i really enjoy having my netbook at school, we learn a lot of things with our netbooks.

The positives I experienced this year include interacting with classmates when we need help. We also get to respond to amazing blog post or comments that were posted by our classmates or other students in the Manaiakalani cluster.we get to learn and create in different process. We also get to make achievements more than one way, we gain more speed when we are typing every day.

Some negatives that occurred while using our netbooks were, such as disconnection and slow connection .There have been sometimes where there were easy access to games and that means we should take more responsibility for our netbooks and our learning.

This year I have learnt a lot more about my netbook such as doing my work on different google docs applications such as spreadsheet, Creating amount of graphs( leaf and steam, pie, column, bar, line.), presentation documents and google template. Now I wonder if we get to take our netbooks home next year.

It has been my second year of having my netbook and I must say I really enjoy using my netbook at school for a learning tool.

Data Detectives - Fruit

We are beginning to learn about statistics. This is my statistics data, we had to vote on one fruit then the most votes we will get that fruit and the second most votes, then that is when the fruit monitors figure out what fruit we will get more often when the fruit monitors bring in our fruit basket. Take a look at my statistics data below.

N.Z Shake Out Day.

Today was New Zealand's national shake out day. At 9:26am there was an earthquake drill. I was at my desk, so I dropped, covered and held to stay safe. One thing we did well at T.P.S. was that we all gathered together. One thing I want to work on next time is to forget about my netbook because it can be replaced and I cant. our meeting place is in the hall. Remember, in the event of an earthquake you must remember to DROP,COVER AND HOLD.

Chunky Challenge.

Arbour Day.

Why we should celebrate Arbor Day?

Arbor Day is a national holiday created to recognize the importance of trees. Arbor day is a good idea to celebrate because some of the trees were felled to build canoe (waka) and our houses (whare). More than 80 percent of the land was covered in trees. We as tamaki primary school think its a good idea to celebrate Arbor day
We celebrate arbor day because it shows our wonderful timber around the world.
Arbor day was created in the United states when they had sold their timber overseas and then that became a business so then we thought that we would have an anue timber day but call it arbor day.
Bad Points
We as Tamaki Primary School think its bad to cut down our trees. We should think better before cutting down our trees and think about what will happen with our trees in the future.Huge numbers were felled and sent to Australia, Britain and California. Between 1990 and 1920 almost a quarter of our native tree (Timber) was sold overseas. In the Native forest in 1000 A.D. there was plenty of trees back in the past and in forest 1840 there was heaps of trees but not much like 1000s Native forest and then in Forest in 2005 our country didn’t have much trees left

Arbour day.
Arbour day first began in the United States in 1872. It was first celebrated in New Zealand in 1890. Today, Arbour Day is a time when people plant trees and all other kinds of things that can be planted and about the importance to our environment.

My observation report

Introduction:This term we have been learning about plants, and how plants grow. We investigated our plants for 4 days.

Procedure:On August 10, Our group gathered 2 plastic cups,2 plants, water, sunproof box and the sun. Before we started our science investigation,we had to get the soil, plant and some water. First we put the soil into the 2 plastic cups and put our 2 plants into the cup Once we finished adding the soil and then we added some water into the cup so that our 2 plants don’t die. Secondly, we put one of our plants under the sunproof box and the other plant, we put it on the window sill in the sun.

Observations:The next day after leaving our 2 plants for 24 hours, we noticed that the leaves were getting lighter on the one that we left under the sunproof box. The one we left on the window sill, the leaves were kind of going rotten, we watered our 2 plants and then put it back under the sunproof box and put the other plant back onto the window sill.

On the second day, the thing that changed about our 2 plants was the one in the sunproof box was growing really well and the leaves were kind of going light, and the one in the sun was kind of dying, the leaves were kind of dying. It was hard to tell which one was surviving, or which one was dying. We watered our plants when we finished investigating our plants.

On the third day, when I took the plant that was sitting on the window sill, I noticed that it was kind of dying. The thing that caught my eyes were that more leaves than from the past had fallen or dying. It got me thinking is it autumn already?

Conclusion:Finally, it was our last investigation. Our plants still didn't make any progress. Both of the plants were kind of dry and most of the leaves were dead.
I discovered that plants can grow many ways and plants will die and leaves will rot at some point. I enjoyed experimenting with both, plants because I found out a lot about plant life and the cycle of a plant's life.

Day 4 Investigation

Day 3

Daisy’s two leaves are completely DEAD now! And one of her other leaves is starting to get dry.I’m confused that Dandelion has survived!Or maybe Daisy has some kind of disease.I should take her to a biologist.....On the other hand Dandelion is growing well but one of her leaves is starting to get dry on the edge.Maybe both will die soon?! hmm-mm I wonder if one will survive?
The one at the top is dandelion and the one at the bottom is daisy.

Day 3 Investigation

There has been a slight change to both our plants the plant that we put by the window had sunshine and it has changed heaps some of the leaves are dead.
This is the plant we left in the dark under the box is growing faster then the one in the sun and the leaves are going lighter.

Monday 13 August 2012

Day 2 Investigation.

Today we checked our plants and the plant that we left in the dark box is still the same but the outside of the leaves have gone lighter and the plant that we put by the window had sunshine and is still looking the same but the roots are expanding. Now I am wondering if the plant that we are leaving under the box is going to grow.

Friday 10 August 2012

Sience Science

I hypothesis that the plant that is in the sun during the process will grow faster than the one covered by the light proof hat is in the sun during the process will grow faster than the one covered by the light proof box.

The biggest jump competition ever

The Extreme Jump.

It was almost time to begin the biggest jump competition ever. As Bella sat at the top of the humongous ramp. She looked down at the deep, deep drop below and the dusty, rocky ground surrounding the ramp. Her heart was pounding with fear because no one in the world had ever attempted to do this stunt.

All around her the dirt bike tracks were dusty and hot . All around her there were people staring at her. All around her there were riders who already knew that Bella would beat them today.  But Bella didn’t know how they were feeling. She looked back at them and felt nervous. She wasn’t nervous about the other riders. All she was thinking about was how she was going to land the bike after her stunt.

The Judges counted down from 5,4,3,2,1 GO! Then Bella blazed off like a cheetah. She zoomed down the deep drop below and came up to the top of the ramp…. Then she flew up into the sky. Bella couldn’t hear any thing at all except for the screaming of her engine. She did her big stunt in the air and started to come back down. She was scared because she still wasn’t sure how she will land.
It felt like she was coming down slowly. Then the bike landed safely.  Bella yelled with excitement and saw her mum and family cheering. She had won the Extreme Jump Challenge and was world champion!
